Steven J. Schiffman concentrates his practice in the fields of business, taxation (including business and estate planning and administration), commercial loans, bank asset recovery and workout and non-profit corporation law.
He also provides counsel in the areas of general litigation, real estate and personal injury.
He is a graduate with distinction of the Pennsylvania State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974. In 1977, he graduated from Capital University School of Law with a Juris Doctorate magna cum laude. In 1983, Mr. Schiffman received his Master's of Law in Taxation from Temple University School of Law.
After graduation from law school in 1977, Mr. Schiffman served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue until the beginning of 1980.
After a short period of private practice concentrating in labor law, taxation and anti- trust litigation, Mr. Schiffman joined Ms. Serratelli to form Serratelli & Schiffman in 1980. Partner Michael F. Brown joined the firm in 1990. Since that time, Mr. Schiffman has practiced in the areas of State and Federal taxation, estate planning, personal injury, commercial litigation, non-profit corporations, banking law, commercial loans and asset recovery and work-out.
Mr. Schiffman acts as counsel to both non-profit and for-profit corporations. Since 1996 he has been General Counsel to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy. He is a member in the R.H.P. Agency, LLC and practices residential and commercial real estate law. He is a frequent lecturer to professional groups as well as local and statewide organizations on matters such as estate planning, non- profit corporation law and land trusts.
Mr. Schiffman is admitted to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court.
Mr. Schiffman is married with two sons. He is also on the Board of Directors of the Susquehanna Township Emergency Medical Services and Pennsylvania Land Trust Association.
