Neil E. Hendershot, Esq. is Of Counsel at the law firm Serratelli, Schiffman & Brown, P.C., in Harrisburg, PA, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of elder law, personal & estate planning, estate & trust administration, and Orphans' Court (PA probate court) litigation. He served as Chair of the PA Bar Association's Real Property, Probate & Trust Law Section (2002-03) and on its Council for ten years. He has served as an Editor of the Section's bi-annual Newsletter continuously since 1983, most recently as Executive Editor. He also served as Chair of the Orphans' Court Rules Committee of the Dauphin County Bar Association, and was founding Chairman of the Estate Planning & Probate Law Section of the DCBA. He was appointed by the PA Supreme Court to serve on its statewide Orphans' Court Procedural Rules Committee. Since 1995, he has been a member of the Advisory Committee on Decedents' Estates Laws, of the PA Joint State Government Commission; and he served on many of its legislative study or drafting committees, including those on guardianship, powers of attorney, uniform trust law, transfers on death, and reproductive technology, many of which resulted in enactments. He is a member of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel. Since 1978, he has taught various courses sponsored by the Pennsylvania Bar Institute, including a 2010 course on "Mediation for the Elderly." Since 2000, he has taught as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Widener University School of Law (Harrisburg Campus). Since 2006, he has written the "PA Elder, Estate, & Fiduciary Law".
